Fresh air, the warm embrace of the sun, that’s how a typical spring day looks like. The sun seems to imbue the land and even humans with a strange energy every spring. The urge to clean is like a basic instinct that rolls in with the spring season after a freezing winter.
Spring cleaning is a sort of ritual, where you thoroughly clean up your house, and you fix every fixable item. In fact, there is almost nothing that beats the feeling of flinging open the windows and letting fresh air roll into a clean and sparkling home accompanied by warm rays of sunlight.
If you want to enjoy this feeling but do not really know how to get started, have no fear. We will be discussing 11 steps that could help you go about your spring cleaning efficiently.
First and foremost, carry out a thorough analysis of your security system. The safety of your family is definitely worth more than a few minutes of your time. Find the home security company and check for any updates, make sure ALL systems are working.
Second, check your smoke alarm. It is not time-consuming. All you have to do is check if the battery still “has a life.” Ensure that the battery still functions. However, it would be preferable to change the battery to a new one.
Put your garage in order, get rid of the stuff you do not need and stack neatly, the ones you still need. You could not stay outside during the winter to do this, but now you have the opportunity to.
You could also check around the house if there are areas requiring repair or maintenance that you may have overlooked. Fix whatever you can yourself (to save some money), but if you can`t, please contact the handyman. Don`t make things worse for the sake of saving some extra cash.
Thoroughly clean the windows. Wash and wipe down the glass or panes. Make use of Windex and some paper towels if available. Pay attention to the window frames, especially the corners. Remember to put on your gloves. A totally clean window adds a certain charm to the beauty of a clean home.
Remember your stack of favorite books or some of your favorite “toys” (pass-times) that you make use of once in a while? You could try putting them in a box or in a strategic corner where they do not easily get attention.
This way, they unclog your space, and you know exactly where they will always be (in case you need them in the future). For those who have a difficult time letting go, well how about trying something new this spring. Let go of your “treasures”, because hoarding would only make the spring cleaning more difficult.
Do not forget the baseboards. These are dirt and grime “collectors.” If neglected the dirt would just keep compiling. Now that you have the time go down, clean and shine these baseboards until they are gleaming.
Since spring cleaning is about going all-out, it gives room to steam clean your carpets. Get rid of all the hidden dirt and grime. A soapy cleaning solution (preferably hot) in your steam cleaner would do the trick. Maybe after a couple of rounds, you would see the “shine” you have been looking for.
At this point, we will advance to the laundry room. Begin here by cleaning the dryer vent thoroughly (after doing the laundry of course). Remove the dryer vent from the back of the machine and use a brush (dryer vent brush) to remove the enclosed lint.
While from the outside, you would also like to remove the cover (dryer vent cover) and also clean lint at the other end of the line. This is very important as a dryer vent that is clogged could be an unsuspecting fire hazard.
Proceed to the sinks and shower heads. Cleaning these might seem to be quite complicated, but it is relatively simple. Prepare for this cleaning, a solution made up of equal part vinegar and equal part water.
Then put the solution in a nylon bag and attach to the sink faucet (maybe with a thread) and shower heads. Keep soaked for a duration of about 50 minutes to one hour. When satisfied with duration, untie and rinse off with warm water.
You could then finish up with a light remodeling project. Move your furniture around a bit, ask the whole family to pitch in or you could do it on your own. This is just an opportunity to get creative and have some fun while spending almost nothing at all. You could get some flowers to add a natural air to the home.
These steps could be carried in any order of your choice. Bring your spring cleaning to a wonderful end and get some rest after work. But not before a relaxing shower.
And if you are in problem with bugs in your home, don’t forget to call for a home pest control service before your move. Else your new home will be effected with the problem. So be careful!
